Lyrics

Say hello to our Uncle Ben, king among men. Ben inspired us to write this song about the quintessential American working man by something he said at our wedding when he started off his toast to our happiness and to my brand new father-in-law's 70th birthday: "For those of you who don't know me, I'm that horse's ass from Amarillo Ben Meadors". ls

Most of you don't know me, I'm that horse's ass named Ben McGuire.
Can anybody show me what I did that started this here fire?
I'm a clean living man - I provide for my family -
And I do the best I can with the cards that they hand me.

Back in '67 I asked Red if she would be my wife.
It ain't always been heaven, but there's no way in hell I'd change my life.
And we built this home for the children we raised here.
If the bank calls our loan, there's no way we can stay here.

CHORUS:
Oo oo oo oo, Don't let Uncle Ben's house burn down.
Oo oo oo oo, Don't let Uncle Ben's house burn down.

Working at the factory, sucking dust for nearly 30 years,
Supervisor tells me "we're closing down and we don't need you here".
And it's all that I know, so where does it leave me?
Now my job's gonna go to some other country.

CHORUS

The American Dream, well we try to believe it
But it's not what it seems when you try to achieve it.
