Earlfest
28 August 2005

Today's Earl Dolifka's birthday and Threadgills in Austin held a festival in his honor. When I said "Earl is music's friend" (see his photo in the "folks" section) I wasn't kidding - I'm not the only musician who feels better when they look out in the audience and see Earl sitting there because somehow you just know it's gonna be a better night because of it. His favorite bands played: The Freddie Steady 5, Denim, The Explosives. You could "feel the luv!" Lots of folks turned out, the music was great (so was the food) and I think Earl had a blast. Even the grackles didn't miss the show - we were outside, there was a cool breeze, the telephone wires were "standing room only" and the birds were groovin' on the sounds. I didn't find out 'til I got there that my camera batteries were dead (moral of the story: always carry spares) so I missed a hundred great photo-ops. Bill (Woodland) threatened to move the blog to the home page on the website (gulp) so I guess I need to get better at this.
PLEASE WRITE BACK, FOLKS. Moral support!!!
